Just some teaser photos, well, more like the pro photographers covering the regatta. Here are some action shots from the races last week. Hopefully I'll have my pictures up soon with a week recap.

Even though I have and race my own boat now, it never hurts to still be a boat whore. Especially when your next week and some looks like this...

I'll be leaving Port Washington, NY tomorrow afternoon on one of these:

We will take the boat here:

And then from the 21st till the 26th I'll be racing this, Block Island Race Week

There is sure to plenty of these after each race day:

You'll be able to track our day to day progress here. Look under "Results". The boat I'm on is "Out of Reach III" and we are in division IRC 35.

This is the biggest regatta I've ever done. This should be interesting.

Oh, and when the race is all done, we get to bring the boat here:

And then I get to go home. I'll try and take some pictures to post up.

Yes, your royal klutz-ness does it again.

I was attempting the remove a bushing from a leaf spring pack by wedging a large flathead screwdriver in the eye to take the tension off the bushing.  That part worked perfectly.  When I gave the bushing a wack to knock it out the screwdriver let go and hit me square in the cheek.

And here's the carnage.  The screwdrive must sit in the corner for 6 month's now to rust as its punishment.

Not best quality, they're from my camera phone.  If you really want to see my stitches in 8 mega-pixel glory I suppose I could take more pictures.

Well I just got back home from the ER after more than 4 hours.  I took a screwdriver to the face while working on the Jeep.  Got some stitches and one nasty black eye.  Pictures tomorrow-ish.

It's that time of year again, another excuse to drive down to Annapolis and drink rum, I mean sail. Kevin and I are headed down to Nap-town today for the boat show Friday and then Good Old Boat Regatta Saturday and Sunday. All you DC folks who might actually read this, if you're not familiar with the Annapolis Boat Show you should check it out. It's tons of fun and you can drool over some really hot boats. There are great restaurants in the area too. Oh, and did I mention the rum. Make sure you get a 'Pain Killer' from Pussers.

Since I'm a putz, here's a post I was supposed to make awhile ago. This race took place on Sept. 28th.

Well, the little yellow boat upset again. With crew Christine, Keith, Gus, Allen and myself we did the 25 mile Fall Light House today and came home with a 2nd place finish on corrected time. I race against dissimilar boats. so we have a rating system to equal the playing field. This was also very cool because it was the first time I drove a boat in a race outside of dinghies. I'm psyched, and I can't wait till next season.

I want to give a huge thanks to the guys that helped me sail my first regatta with my new boat. Jack, Kevin, Keith, Don, and myself put the little yellow boat on the line for the NJ Hospice Cup. We may not have won, but we weren't last, and we even made a few people nervous a few times. Thanks again guys.

The water that is, I've been tasting fiberglass and epoxy now for weeks.

My boat has a mast now that is fully rigged AND no longer parallel to the ground. Nick and I went down the boat yard and did it the hard way, with a gin pole. Mind you my mast is 38 feet tall. Needless to say it was an adventure. The headsails are on order too. Doyle in City Island is making me a #1 and #3 XTR Carbon jibs. I can't wait to check those out. The deck hardware is almost all installed too, forgot to snap some shoots of that. Thank God for ebay, I've been getting killer deals on lots of goodies.

On to the pictures.

Look, its starting to look like something.

Fiberglass work just isn't complete without a cold one, or 4.

Well, I am gainfully employed once again in addition to going to school. Even though I am finishing my Mechanical Engineering degree, I took a job as an IT Manager for a small IT consulting firm. Today was my first day, I just have to start getting used to the driving. Most of my customers are in northern NJ. This should prove to be fun and interesting. We work with small to medium sized businesses and Mark (the owner) has many IT business contacts that he (and them) refer customers back and forth depending on their needs. Seems to work like an informal conglomeration, but smaller. Here we go again!

Well, Matt's yacht transport service was back in action yesterday. We drove down to Keyport and picked up a Charles Hankins lifeboat from a boat builder that is friends with my friend Jack. Jack paid the hefty sum of one bottle of vodka. The boat is significant because Jack just recently bought the building in Lavallette where Mr. Hankins had his boat building business. It's diagonally across the street from the Crab's Claw Inn (but you knew that Chris, right). The life boat was in pretty sad shape, it was held together with 2 2x4s that kept the sides from falling in on its self. Jack plans to restore the little boat to its former glory, or something close.

Here is the vessel on my trailer in Keyport.

Amazingly it stayed in one piece for the drive down the Parkway.

While I was at the boatyard in Keyport, I saw I boat that caught my eye. I spoke to the owner of the yard and found out it was for sale. Needless to say, its VERY tempting considering the price.

The Evelyn 26. No bumble bee jokes necessary.

...or taxi cab jokes neither.

I likely. I want.

Only 48 hours till I leave for Florida with boat in tow. Gary and I are trailing his boat to St. Petersburg. The races are the 15th, 16th, and 17th. You should be able to track our progress at the following site: http://www.sailingworld.com/nood_regatta.jsp?location=597. The boat name is "Slice", Gary Gochal skipper.

Well, I had a full day today. I'm gonna finish my soup and go to bed.

Get a load of this gem. The Alps MD-5000. Come on, you remember these, nope you didn't need that brain cell either.

Pulled it out of my basement, looks like it works too. Just have to get a USB to 1284 adapter so I can use it on my main computer.

Oh, and get a load of all those tapes. Did you forget that it was a dye sub printer? Nah, 'course not.

Hmm, might be a reason why my friends call my basement the computer museum.

So while reading the daily Anarchy I noticed a thread on the Olson's class websites. Since I crew on an Olson I checked it out and found this:

http://olsonuldb.com/media/index.html

That picture was taken last August when I was up in Canada, Kingston, Ontario to be exact.

Pretty cool I think.

The woman is Gina, our pit girl, the back of the head is Craig, trimmer/tactician. Not visible is Gary the owner/skipper, and Rich, the other trimmer.

I hope this victory isn't short lived, but the squirrels can't into the soffit right now. Last summer we closed off 2 spots where birds got in and just nested right at that spot. Then the squirrels got in and run all around the soffit which goes half way around the roof. They kindly made 2 more holes, one bypassing one of the closures. Well, this morning I went up on the roof, found the entrance, and closed it up with expanded metal. About a half an hour later you could hear them running around the roof, and they where not happy. I even got out my BB gun to take some pot shots at them so they would get the message. Hopefully they did as I haven't heard them so far tonight.
